This book was such fun. Although it is somewhat dark academia-inspired, it is very playful with it, not particularly dark, and has cleverness on full display.

A lot of ideas. So many puns. A lot of joyous fun on the McMasters setting. I get the impression that a lot of that section (the first ~half of the book) was condensed in editing. Feels rushed. So much to explore. The fact that part of the book (Iverson’s journals) is told in first person and the rest is third person omniscient is a bit jarring, but the differing text makes that work better. The fates of each protagonist, the twists, and so on, were all interesting. I would be eager for a sequel to continue fleshing out the world and the characters, and hope the sequel spends more time with the McMasters campus.

All told, this book was a joy that I highly recommend.
